What's a tripcode?

"A tripcode is the hashed result of a password that allows one's identity to be recognized without storing any data about users. Entering a particular password will let one "sign" one's posts with the tripcode generated from that password."

Are the tripcodes on discuo also using a salt? Also, I'm guessing this means there is no functionality to start using a different password somehow?

Theoretically, I guess you could somehow build a system where you post something with the new tripcode, and then "sign" that with the old one, and then the system can know you've moved to the new tripcode. But if this in practice is feasible or even valuable, I'll leave to others with more experience of tripcodes :)
