why aren't more people obsessed with ai

computers have become smarter than humans for a while but barely anybody talks about it. science has reached a point where humanity can be replaced entirely with software. I thought people would be starting AI religions and worshipping it like a deity but barely anybody cares. even people in tech downplay its significance. do people not realize that we will reach a point where everything we do will be done by computers and robots? women will be replaced by wAIfus and wars will be fought solely with drones. we're going though a new era of evolution but people just sit and watch tv like nothing even happened. I for one welcome our AI overlords with open arms. Surely they will be wiser rulers than the insane people that currently control the world.

Why do you think AI would be smart, or wise, or sane?

How can you be sure it won't flush the coolant from all nuclear reactors because it assigned significance to Math.random() or some other arbitrary input?

i would say why are they too obsessed? it's everywhere now. for me it's just a tool.

Only a small subset of population can understand what ai is not superstitiously and rest just don't care. Its in the realm of science fiction that not interesting to them, on the same level you might not be interested in gardening or sewing.

And of the small subset most know how flawed the technology is. AI hype comes from scammers in the industry who use apocalyptic messaging to increase stock evaluation and average IQ people, who just now realize how irrelevant they are.

There's nothing wrong with technology they just stay silent that access is not for everyone

AI is useless for 95% of human tasks. It makes 100 IQ people obsolete for office jobs, but that is it.

Current AI is nothing more than fancy search with a dialogue skin on it. We're no closer to true general AI than we were 100 years ago. People are duped by the way modern AI bots use what seems like conversational language, but literally all it is is a search engine.

Lol, I think that's the fastest way I've seen someone made it clear they have no idea what they're talking about. If you'd say "It just outputs text based on probabilities", you'd have some leg to stand on. But equalizing it with a search engine? Fun stuff

Can you explain how it's more than a search with a fancy language skin?

"Search" means iterating through something and displaying things you wanted to have displayed.

LLMs are ML models for generating text based on trained weights.

If you don't understand the differences, you might want to approach this from a "bottom-up" approach and (re)visit ML 101.

"AI" means a different thing every 5-10 years. It's been a buzz word for a long time. Do you mean LLMs? If so, they're fundamentally just text prediction and often can't do basic things like math.

"What would I even use this OCR model for? It can't even do basic math"

See, that's how you sound.

Yes, I agree that it's ridiculous. Hence why I responded to OP's claims of intelligence

What the current LLMs can do with their pilfered data is certainly impressive. But once you look past the hype men con artists pushing it and trying to hamfist it into every product, you are left with some tools with interesting possibilities, but not even remotely close to true general intelligence.
