I'm not a big fan of everything being deleted after 24h

Especially for the stated original purpose of this platform: to discuss code. I think it would be more convenient to have certain subs that never disappear, so that some more important discussions can remain. Otherwise, what's the point of posting anything?

Fair enough. I change that today.

UPDATE: I've removed the 24-hour message deletion function. Posts will now remain on the platform.

While I'm not sure ephemeral threads were the solution, I do think anonymous + ephemeral had the advantage of people focusing less on approval and reputation.

Upvotes, downvotes and having your name attached to something that remains give an incentive to build a good reputation and posting well-thought-out content. However they also often discourage unpopular opinions or encourage sensational responses aimed towards farming internet points.

I wonder if this site will end up prioritizing one over the other at the expense of being closer to other sites that already exist

Or “funniest troll wins”

What about an option (checkbox) provided to the OP of a thread? Off (keep) by default, and select to “Delete after 24h”?

Best of both worlds.

I like this idea, I had thought of something optional too. I think I'll do it.
I'm just finishing the dark mode, I'll add it after!

If you have changed the behaviour you have not changed the messaging. Make sure what your telling people matches what you do.

Where did I forget that?
