bash; I'm not sure why I'd put more batteries in my shell.

+, o our beloved bash
Though the more important question is: is there a text editor better than vim?

Better history, display current branch, show last sha, better navigation, tons of plugins, better themes, simpler scripts and more powerful aliases, and those are from the top of my mind, there are definitely many advantages.

Bash usually, sometimes nushell for more complicated stuff.

If ZSH is not your thing, fish might be, I like ZSH with ohmyZSH

I would like to try fish, but I despise scripting in the shell so much that I'm not sure I'd have the patience to transition (even if its better designed)

Use zsh since forever, after beginning with bash (probably Ubuntu or alike). Looked at a bunch of new ones when they come around, but they never really have that much more amazing features that it makes sense to spend time to switch.
For scripting I always target bash for end-user scripts and straight up sh for everything else (like infrastructure/embedded stuff)
