the algorithm really is terrible these days

it just feels like a nonstop brainwashing machine of negativity, "everything is bad now", forced political brainrot, etc. like they designed the algorithm to only show things based on this formula. of course there are other things mixed in with it, but your chances of actually finding anything new feel very slim.

there are supposedly millions of fun interesting videos on the site and this is what they give you to watch. it all just seems so fake and manufactured. was youtube ever even good?

I kind of agree with you, and perhaps the logical succession to YouTube is PeerTube.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem as polished or as easy to use as Mastodon right now.
